PhotoCalc Support

Learn more about PhotoCalc...

When I start the application, I get a blank screen, then returned to the home screen. What’s happening?

Please note: make sure you have upgraded your iPhone or iPod touch to the new version 2.1 of the operating system, which fixes many bugs with third party application support.

This is an unfortunate but easy to fix bug in the iPhone/iPod touch firmware when first installing a new app, or upgrading an existing app (it affects all applications, not just PhotoCalc). To fix it, force your device to reboot (hold down the home and lock/unlock buttons until an Apple logo appears on your screen). In most cases, this resolves the problem.

If it still does not properly open, delete the application from your device (touch and hold the icon until it starts to ‘wiggle,’ then click the X to delete it), and reboot your device (hold down the home and lock/unlock buttons until an Apple logo appears on your screen). Once your device has restarted, reinstall the application from the App Store on your device, and it will open without a problem.

You can read more about this problem and some suggested things to try in this thread on Apple’s discussion board.

Is the iPod touch supported?

Yes. The only limitation in version 1.0.1 is that Location Services are required for the sunrise/sunset calculator, so sunrise and sunset times will only be available when you are within range of WiFi hotspots which support Apple’s location service. PhotoCalc contains a database of locations contained within the application itself, so the sunrise calculator can operate without a connection to the Internet or WiFi to determine your current location.

Can I select a location to see the sunrise/sunset times?

Yes, PhotoCalc contains a database of locations to calculate sunrise/sunset times. The database is located within the application and does not require Internet connectivity, and can operate without using the device’s location services.

The location I am looking for is not within the listing.

To keep the size of the database reasonable, the number of entries had to be limited. We have a comprehensive global database of locations available to us, if you would like to see a new location added to the list within Sunrise, please contact us at support@adairsystems.com and we will include it in the next version.
