My e-mail backups were working fine, but all of a sudden stopped. What happened?

In the iPhone/iPod touch OS versions 2.2.1 and earlier, there is a limitation in how applications generate e-mail messages. When your filling log reaches a certain size, the text of your backup exceeds what GasHog™ can pass into the e-mail application, and touching the backup button does not cause any action.

The iPhone OS 3.0 gives developers a much more robust interface to create and send e-mail from their applications. GasHog™ version 1.5.2 (which should be available on the App Store soon) makes use of this new interface, and the limitation is overcome.

Will I lose my data when I upgrade to a new version?

Please note: make sure you have upgraded your iPhone or iPod touch to the new version 2.1 of the operating system, which fixes many bugs with third party application support.

No, not if you upgrade according to the directions which follow. There is a bug in the iPhone/iPod touch operating system which will cause in some cases it not to copy the data over from the previous version of GasHog™ to the new version when you update. This is not a problem within GasHog™ itself, and it affects all iPhone/iPod touch applications which store data persistently on the device. GasHog™ is designed to store its information in a persistent database on the device, which retains data through upgrades.

You can read more about this problem and some suggestions to minimize the chances of losing data with an application update in this discussion on Apple’s message board.

Additionally, we are designing a backup/restore system for GasHog™ data to make this process easier, should Apple not correct this problem in a timely manner.

I accidentally deleted the application, or it’s disappeared, how do I get it back?

Once you have purchased an application, you can re-download it as often as needed without being charged again. More information on this is available from Apple’s knowledge base: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519.

When I start the application, I get a blank screen, then returned to the home screen. What’s happening?

Please note: make sure you have upgraded your iPhone or iPod touch to the new version 2.1 of the operating system, which fixes many bugs with third party application support.

This is an unfortunate but easy to fix bug in the iPhone/iPod touch firmware when first installing a new app, or upgrading an existing app (it affects all applications, not just GasHog™). To fix it, force your device to reboot (hold down the home and lock/unlock buttons until an Apple logo appears on your screen). In most cases, this resolves the problem.

If it still does not properly open, delete the application from your device (touch and hold the icon until it starts to ‘wiggle,’ then click the X to delete it), and reboot your device (hold down the home and lock/unlock buttons until an Apple logo appears on your screen). Once your device has restarted, reinstall the application from the App Store on your device, and it will open without a problem.

You can read more about this problem and some suggested things to try in this thread on Apple’s discussion board.

Is the iPod touch supported?

Yes. GasHog™ does not require Internet connectivity, or GPS/location services, and all features are available on the iPod touch, as well as the iPhone.
